Obituary of Giuseppe Messina Giuseppe Messina, Maestro, 92, of Jamesville, originally from Alessandria, della Rocca, Agrigento, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Francis House, with his beloved spouse Frances Massa Messina and daughter Salvatrice Messina, by his side. Born March 20, 1926, he was the son of Alfonso and Salvatice Messina. He received his education from the Conservatory Vincenzo Bellini as a Maestro and Concertatore of orchestra, teaching all instruments.

He loved to teach and constantly learn new things, reading and translating, being with family and long discussions with his students. Many of his students have had successful careers in Italy and America. Conducting was his first love.

He was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. He is survived by his spouse, Frances. They have been married 53 wonderful, blessed years; his daughter and son-in-law, Salvatice Messina and Joseph Varco of Onondaga Hill, with their children, Carla and Enzo Varco; a sister, Felicia Messina of Italy; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Lawrence and Doreen Massa of Lakeland and Salvatore and Donna Massa of Liverpool; a sister-in-law and her husband, Rosemary and Angelo Corridori of Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews loving cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 27 at 11 am at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 am, prior to the Mass at Holy Cross. Interment will be in Jamesville-Walnut Grove Cemetery.

The family wishes to remember the wonderful care from Suhas V. Pradhan, MD, John Gullo, MD and Louis Bonavita, MD and Oxana McLaughlin, the kind care giver and Hospice and Francis House, and every person who has helped him in his stay in America. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider Francis House in Giuseppe’s memory. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
