Obituary for Guinn Lee Lacy Guinn Lee Lacy obituary Guinn Lee Lacy, matriarch of a large clan of strong-willed people, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. She fought valiantly for life for several years, but in the end was overwhelmed by a combination of ailments. The day before her passing, at her insistence, her family held a large birthday party for her youngest daughter Karen and her sister-in-law Becci.
She enjoyed her favorite foods, ate birthday cake, played bingo, laughed with her loved ones and told stories all day. She loved every minute of it, as did we all. She left us the next morning, very peacefully, surrounded by her family and enveloped in love.
Guinn was born in Monahans, Texas, on March 27, 1931, the eldest child of Roy Lee and Ruthmae Webb. She grew up in the hardscrabble days of the Great Depression, her parents moving from oilfield to oilfield as work was available. Being the oldest, her nurturing personality developed at an early age, as she helped care for her three siblings, Randall Carroll, Jimmy Ruth, and Roy Dale Webb.
Guinn was a good student, and graduated from Monahans High School in 1947, at sixteen years old. She was working as a telephone operator in Monahans in 1950, when she met a suave young man from East Texas named George Alvin Lacy. It was love at first sight and they were married on March 30, 1950.
They were happily married for sixty-four years, and together raised four children: Rodger Dale, Susan Carol , Teresa Ann, and Karen Ruth. Guinn and her four children followed George as they moved around the western United States, as he worked for Baker Oil Tools throughout the Rocky Mountain region. They lived in small towns in Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado, with names like Ignacio, Pinedale, and Worland.
When George retired after thirty years with Baker in Denver, they moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1986, where they took over management of Sunset Park. They lived there happily for thirty-two years. George preceded her in death on January 16, 2015.
Guinn was greatly loved by and is survived by her four children, Rodger, Susan, Teresa, and Karen and their spouses: Cherie Lacy, Rick LeMasters, Randy Woodell, and David Boyle; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, her sister, and her brother Roy Dale Webb and his wife Rebecca, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her brother, Randall Carroll Webb, died in November 2016. Guinn loved life, and loved her family.
She was kind, creative, strong, smart, always had a big smile on her face, and was always willing to lend an ear or make a delicious meal. She provided love, shelter, advice, and sometimes a strong hand to anyone who needed it. Guinn made friends easily wherever she lived.
She was the Queen Mum of the “Dazzlin’ Damsels” Red Hat Society of Loveland, Colorado, with whom she shared many enjoyable meals and events. She loved the Denver Broncos and sometimes spoke shortly if you called her in the middle of a game. It was a joy to watch football games, and later Colorado Rockies baseball games, with her and George.
Her entire family will long treasure memories of gatherings in her welcoming home, where many evenings were spent in talk and laughter. It was the center of the family for several generations. Guinn will always be missed by everyone who knew her.
Her family and friends will mark her passing with sadness, but also with many wonderful memories. Guinn Lacy will always be remembered with great fondness and deep love. Remembrance services will be held at Allnutt Funeral Home in Loveland, Colorado, on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 10:00AM.
At 11:00AM, immediately after the services, family and friends will gather to celebrate Guinn’s life in the Allnutt reception room. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lacy Love team for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s (act. alz.org/goto/LacyLove).
