H. Joe Featherston August 25, 1936 ~ June 19, 2018 H. Joe Featherston, our beloved husband, father, grandpa and friend, passed away on June 19, 2018. He was born August 25, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Vera Andrews and Marshall Featherston. He and his parents traveled for the first five years of his life while his father worked in various oil fields.

He lived in Featherston, Oklahoma on the family ranch until he was 11 years old. He and his mother moved to Iowa City, Iowa when Joe was 11. He graduated from University High School in Iowa City.

He attended the University of Iowa. He married L. Jane Metzler, his high school sweetheart, on September 15, 1956, in Denver, Colorado. Together, they had four children.

Joe was in the US Army stationed in Panama, where he and Jane lived for several years before moving back to Iowa City. He worked as the Personnel Director at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from 1965 to 1969. In 1969, Joe, Jane, and their family moved to Ogden, Utah, when Joe became the Personnel Director at St. Benedict’s Hospital.

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Weber State University in 1977. He was a Vice President at St. Benedict’s/ORMC for many years. He also worked at Enable Industries as a Placement Coordinator.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church and later Washington Heights Baptist Church where he held various Board positions. He had been an active member of the community and was a member of various organizations, including, Spiker’s, Rotary, and American Red Cross. Joe retired in 2002.

Joe and Jane enjoyed traveling and experienced many trips together. Joe was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was so proud of each of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Jane; three children: Debbie (Tim) Richardson, Mike Featherston, and Julie (Chad) Smith; eight grandchildren: Michelle Sewell, Melanie Vockler, Jessica (Andy) Ostler, Zak (Sammie Fugate) Smith, Alexis Smith, Seth (Autumn) Featherston, Emilie (Eric) Barragan, and Skye Featherston; and seven great-grandchildren: Dallon Grimsley, Jaxson, Lucas, and Nic Vockler, Cami and Lexi Ostler, and Zelda Featherston. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, John Featherston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. A special thank you to the caring staff in the Memory Care Unit at Brookdale, who cared for Joe during the last year of his life, and to Dr. Seth Lewis, the nurses, and the CNA’s of Encompass Home Health and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Alz.org).
