Harlen Tackett, 87, of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Montgomery County on November 30, 1931 to the late Felix and Gladys White Tackett.

Harlen was a native of Mt. Sterling, Means and a member of Hope First Church of God for fifty-three years. He was the oldest of twenty children and from an early age worked to put food on the table for them.

He retired from Hobart’s, farmed and had a logging operation. Harlen loved to hunt, fish, ride horses and spend time in the woods. He looked forward to hunting trips out west, playing Rook with friends and most of all time spent with his family.

He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Survivors include; two sons, Danny Tackett (Joan, deceased) of Frenchburg and Ricky Tackett (Monica) of Frenchburg; two daughters, Doris Cockrell (David) of Mt. Sterling and Lisa Miller (Rob) of Winchester; thirteen siblings; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; special care givers Brenda George, Sandy Ratliff and Emily Keesee and his church family at Hope First Church of God.

In addition to his parents Harlen was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years Henrietta “Faye” Bellamy Tackett; a cherished daughter in-law Joan Tackett; six siblings and special friends Earl Whisman and Bobby Jean Amburgey. Funeral will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00AM. Visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 from 6:00PM – 9:00PM.

Both will be held at Hope First Church of God in Hope, Kentucky. Committal will follow funeral at Lovely-Amburgey Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Pastor Glennis Sizemore will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, family request donations to the Hope First Church of God. Pallbearers: Wes Dunaway, Brandon Robbins, Justin Tackett, Brian Rogers, John Williams Combs and Caleb Cockrell. Honorary Pallbearers; F.M. Sponcil, Hubert White, Jerry Maloney, Ted Hiler, Clayton Hawkins, Skip Holley, Chuck Toy, Walter Ballard, Ernie Tackett and Benny Whisman.
