Obituary for Harriet Sipple Smith The George Rogers Smith family of Covington is deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved matriarch, Harriet Anne Sipple Smith. Harriet passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2018. She was born on January 30, 1928 in Orlando, Florida to George and Bertha Sipple.

Harriet is survived by her children Jean Anne Smith Mayhall, Jim Smith (Susan), George Rogers Smith, Jr. (Britta), Meg Smith, and Christopher Smith (Debbie); ten grandchildren Michael Mayhall, Brian Mayhall, Jay Smith (Stephanie), Shelley Stagner (Gabe), Michael Kennedy, Alina Smith, George Rogers Smith, III, Russell Cole, Evan Cole, and Ethan Cole; and five great grandchildren. Harriet is preceded in death by her husband George Rogers Smith, Sr., her daughter Holly Rogers Smith Kennedy, and her grandson Matthew Terry. Harriet’s greatest joy was to be surrounded by her large family and to keep track of all of their activities.

Her second love and her passion was home building, which she continued into her 90th year. ‘Miss Harriet’ will be missed by the many men and women who worked for her and with her as she built beautiful homes across St. Tammany Parish. She took great pride in the fact that all of her children became business owners or home builders in their own right.

Always a leader, Harriet was president of her college sorority, and excelled with honors at University of North Carolina where she majored in Journalism. She and her late husband Rogers settled in the Covington/Mandeville area in 1959, making it their “forever home”. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM with visitation on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 Noon.
