Obituary for Helen Harris (Lam) Helen Delores Harris, 86, of Johnston City, passed away at 9:35 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Helen was born October 12, 1931 in Johnston City to Charles and Mary (Powell) Lam. She married Tom Harris and he preceded her in death.

Helen was retired, having been a secretary and bookkeeper most of her life. She worked for Dr. John O’Keefe in Marion for many years. She previously worked at Olin Industries.

Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnston City where she sang in the choir. Helen enjoyed reading. She was also very crafty and enjoyed flower gardening, painting and doing ceramics.

Helen had a love of singing and sang in a quartet with her sisters. She also volunteered her time at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Helen is survived two grandchildren, Cody Dorris of Mission Viejo, CA.

and William Trevor Dorris of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Lee Chase of Marion and Amelia Brandon of Mission Viejo, CA; special nephew, Chuck Reed and wife Tona of Johnston City; two special-great nieces, Rana Kay Reed and her two children, (Tara Kay and Casey Tanner); Cassie Jo Stonebraker and husband Shane and their son (Reed Carter Stonebraker), and a great-great nephew Bronson Stanley; special niece, Sheila Davis of Seneca, IL. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a very dear friend, Eve Hollowell of Huntsville, AL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Bill Dorris, parents, siblings, Charles Thurston Lam, Francis Allison, Ruth Ellen Reed, Mary Erwin, Betty Tomlinson and Bill Lam.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2018 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Stephan Hudspath officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.

Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
