Helen Frances Wilson Byrd, 95, of Wardensville, WV died on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the E.A. Hawse Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Baker, WV. Helen was born on April 25, 1923 in Wardensville, WV, the daughter of the late Edward and Nora Orndorff Wilson. Helen was a descendant of the Wilson’s who settled in Trout Run Valley in the 1750’s.

She loved collecting and refinishing antiques, skilled painter, enjoyed sewing, and most of all being with her family and friends. Helen married William P. Byrd on January 18, 1946 in Washington, D.C. William died August 18, 1993. Surviving are two sons: Geoffrey S. Byrd (Penny) of Hertford, NC; John P. Byrd (Joann) of Wardensville, WV; two daughters: Susan Dawson (David) of Afton, NY; Bette L. Bell of Beverly, MA: 8 grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a daughter: Nancy Byrd Dorman; one grandchild: Andy Bell; 6 sisters: Mabel Rudolph, Nellie Miller, Mazie Combs, Madge Western, Lucille Sanders, & Virginia Vance. A graveside service will be held at the Greenfield Cemetery near Wardensville on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 at 11 AM.

Officiating will be Pastor Roger Sager. The family will receive friends at the Loy-Giffin Funeral Home in Wardensville on Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 6-8 PM.
