Helen M. Halpin, 87, passed away with family by her side on Friday, November 16, 2018. Helen was born April 17, 1931 in Dubuque, IA. Friends are welcome to gather from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, November 23rd at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd.

, Urbana to visit and reminisce with family. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 24. Father Luke Spannagel will officiate.

Burial in Grandview Memorial Gardens will immediately follow the mass. Friends and family are welcome to share lunch afterwards in St. Patrick’s Parish Center. She married Charles A. Halpin in Dubuque, IA on January 26, 1952.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years and a daughter, Catherine Ann. Helen is survived by four children, Mary Helen Williams (Steve), Charlie Halpin, Ann Bell (Dan) and Joseph Halpin (Michele); four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren Her career in the city of Urbana’s Light and Engineering Departments spanned 20 years and cultivated a treasured work family. As mother and grandmother, her family were most dear to Helen.

This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Deep lasting friendships, interwoven with family traditions, were the essence of Helen’s life. Hosting a house full of friends with homemade plum pudding, bread and oxtail soup complimented the lighting ceremonies of Urbana’s Candlestick Lane for half a century.

May we all see the world as she did, with a delight for reading, travel and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. Together, Helen and Chuck created a Halpin home where the door is always open, memories are created, friends gather, love resides and laughter never ends.
