Helen J. Mecher, age 83, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at a local hospital. She was born January 12, 1936 and was immediately adopted by her loving parents, Harry and Erma (Thomas) Jones. Helen married Ronald E. Mecher on August 27, 1955 in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on February 11, 2002.

Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Plumb’s Supermarket. She and Ron later owned and operated Economy Market at the corner of Milliron and Evanston for 25 years before they retired in 1997. Helen was a long-time member of the Eastside Lions Club.

She was an avid playing card collector and was a member of 52 Plus Joker Club and the Chicago Playing Card Collectors. Survivors include her 4 children, David (Brenda) Mecher of Fruitport, Lori Parsons of Muskegon, Kristi (Kort) Parshall of Ferry, Brian (Christina Cribley) Mecher of Muskegon; 1 son-in-law, Buck Hornsby; 5 grandchildren, Donald Mecher, Amy Mecher, Adam Corlew, Taylor Corlew, Kelsey Mecher; 2 great-grandsons, Aiden Corlew and Scoty Mecher. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 children, Donald Mecher and Sandra Mecher.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 10, 2019 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Rev. John H. Brown officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior, 1-2 PM Friday.
