Helen (nee Smilinich) Fadell, age 92, of Williamsville, died Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Elderwood of Grand Island after a long illness. Born April 8, 1927 in Syracuse, New York, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Katharina (nee Suk) Smilinich. She grew up in the Gastown area of Tonawanda and was a graduate of Tonawanda High School.

Helen was an avid gardener and was awarded special recognition for her beautiful gardens, pond and waterfall. She dedicated much of her life to her church and was known for her Victorian crocheted ornaments and angels, which she did for her love of God and to benefit the church. She always took flowers from her garden for church services and for a number of years ran the Byzanite Dinner and Grand Bazaar at her church.

She was the sister of the late Bronko Sedlacek, Mildred Magaris, Andrew and Charles Smilinich, and Draga Swagel. She was the beloved wife for 49 years to Albert G. Fadell; mother of Catherine (Fred) Hamp of Grand Island, George Olmstead of North Tonawanda, Ellie (Phillip) Zaccardelli of Lapeer, Michigan, and Allison (Eric Stroheker) Copeland of Hampton, New Hampshire; grandmother of Michael Stuber, Dawn (Daniel) Kennedy, Rebecca (Anthony) Grimmelt, Jennifer (Jon) Bender, Frederick (Meg) Hamp, Christopher (Kelly) Hamp, Florian (Tara) Stuber, and Keller Copeland; and great-grandmother of Aaron Nadrowski, Allison (Jake) Smith, Amanda (Keaton) Collins, Michael Stuber, Evan, Thomas and Nathan Bender, Wyatt and Sam Grimmelt, Patricia, Frederick and Thomas Hamp, Connor and Owen Hamp, Brooklyn and Bradley Kennedy, and Florian and Zoe Stuber. Also surviving are her great, great-grandson, Dimitri Nadrowski, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Tuesday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday at St. George Orthodox Church, 2 Nottingham Terrace, Buffalo; the Rev. Jason Vansuch officiating.

Friends invited. If desired, memorials to St. George Orthodox Catholic Church are preferred by the family.
