Mrs. Helen (Sochko) Sologovitch, 93, a resident of Mountain Top Health Care Center, fell asleep in the Lord late Saturday evening following a brief illness. Born September 20, 1924 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late John and Julianna Sochko. Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Sologovitch was a member of the 1942 graduating class of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Sologivitch is remembered as being a loving, devoted wife, mother and sister to her beloved family. In her spare time, Helen was an avid bowler and golfer. Amongst her sporting accomplishments, she realized two holes-in-one at Wyoming Valley Country Club, Hanover Township and one hole-in-one at Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course in Bear Creek.

A lifelong member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church North Wilkes-Barre, she previously held the office of secretary of her bowling league at Saint Mary’s. She also held membership with the ladies auxillary at the North End Slovak Citizens Club. Mrs. Sologovitch was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John J. Sologovitch on February 14, 2009.

At the time of his passing, the couple shared some sixty years of married life together. Also preceding her were the couple’s only daughter, Nancy S. Carmon on April 25, 2011, and by brothers Michael, John and Peter Sochko and sister, Mrs. Mary Kane. Left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Mrs. Anne Gavlick of Bear Creek Township, Mrs. Margaret Dorzinsky of Wilkes-Barre Township and Mrs. Dorothy D’Arco of Wilkes-Barre and Port St. Lucie, Florida; former son-in-law, Mr. Mark T. Nilon and Laura J. Okuniewski of Mountain Top; Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sologovitch will be conducted on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. with Panachida from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street. The Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor of Saint Mary’s will serve as celebrant. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join the family for visitation and remembrances Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in Mrs. Sologovitch’s name are suggested for the Alzheimer’s Association 57 North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
