Herbert Allen Smith, Jr., 70, of Spring Grove, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the York Hospital. Born December 10, 1947, in York, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert A., Sr. and Dorothy (Simpson) Smith. Herbert was the loving husband of Michele (Gardner) Smith with whom he shared 26 years of marriage.

Herbert was a member of Wolgamuth Church of the Brethren, Dillsburg, PA. Herbert retired from AWI, having worked as a fork lift mechanic for over fifteen years. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching football for the Tri-Town Midgets and volunteering at the York Hospital.

He loved Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football, anything to do with cars, gardening and just being outdoors. In addition to his loving wife, Michele, Herbert is survived by his children, Tammy Golden and husband Mark, Mark Smith and wife Charlotte, Jim Smith and wife Lori, and Ian Smith; five grandchildren, Skylar Smith, Trent Golden, Mickael Golden, Trevor Smith and Myla Smith; siblings, brothers and sisters, Gloria Miller, Jim Smith and wife Barb, Garry Smith and wife Susan, Jerry Smith and wife Nancy, and Kerry Smith and wife Wendy; and sister-in-law, Diane LoSasso. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Smith and Steve Smith; and a brother-in-law, Harold Miller.

A memorial service to celebrate and remember Herbert will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Hanover Church of the Brethren, 601 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, PA with the Rev. Doug Miller officiating. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM, Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Herbert’s memory may be made to Easter Seals, 2550 Kingston Rd, East York, PA 17402.
