Clendenan, age 92, of Marlette, MI went to Heaven to be with the Lord on May 27, 2019. She was born July 19, 1926 at home on the Hager farm and graduated from Marlette High School and Fort Wayne Gospel Temple. Hilda also received her Master’s Degree in elementary music from Eastern Michigan University.

She married Ray Clendenan in 1948. They farmed together on Maplehurst Farm from 1948 – 1969. Hilda was a Music Teacher at the Bea McDonald Elementary School in Marlette from 1969 – 1975.

She served with Ray in Youth For Christ from 1957 – 1990 and in Michigan Teen Ranch from 1965 – 1998. Hilda is remembered for faithfully serving God, loving her family and friends, unselfishly and compassionately helping others and for preparing great meals. She was a wonderful Sunday School Teacher, School and Church Choir Director and Secretary of the Board at Bethel Church.

Everyone always loved her vocal solos, especially “Oh Holy Night” at Christmas time. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ray Clendenan; daughter-in-law, Holly Clendenan; parents, Kent and Hazel Hager; sister, Vi Hager; and brother, Robert Hager. She is survived by her four children, Connie Clendenan of Fresno, CA, Clifton Clendenan D.C. of Imlay City, MI, Christie Clendenan of Fresno, CA, and Carol (Tom) Stier of Harrison, MI; five grandchildren, Tricia (Joe Galazka) LaValley, Allison (Seby) Kottackal, Joshua (Bethany) Clendenan, Travis and Todd Stier; and great grandchildren, Trey and Landon LaValley, Abigail Gerstenberger, Lance and Logan Marta, Brendan and Dylan Galazka.

A Celebration of Hilda’s life will be held at 1 PM Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Marlette Baptist Church followed by a luncheon and time for family visitation. Memorial suggestions to Gideon’s International, United Hospice Service of Marlette, Cornerstone University/Hager Foundation or your favorite charity.
