Howard D. Higgerson Sr. passed away May 22, 2018, at New Madrid Living Center in New Madrid at the age of 76 years. Born June 22, 1941, near Higgerson’s Landing “floating down the river on a cabbage leaf” , son of the late Andrew Jackson and Lena Keene Higgerson, he was an Air Force veteran and employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 31 years. On Jan.

7, 1963, he married Judy Akins who survives of the home. In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnnie Mack Higgerson of New Madrid and Howard “B” and Paula Higgerson Jr. of New Madrid; one daughter and son-in-law, Candy and Chris Henry of New Madrid; one brother, Cecil Higgerson of Indiana; six grandchildren, Mollie, Gerriann (Josh), Kristen, Howard “Trey,” Owen and Emily; and one great-granddaughter, Laikynn. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Carol and Norma Jean; and his brothers, Ralph, Bub, Russell, Alfred, Mack and an infant brother.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid. Burial will follow in the Mounds Park Cemetery with G.L. Keene officiating.
