Howard’s Obituary Howard W. Sander, Sr., 88, of Newbern, TN, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1930, in Weehawken, N.J., to the late August and Willhemina Sander. Howard was a retired recruiter for the United States Army, where he worked for 22 years.

He also served his country in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Howard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newbern, where he served as a Men’s Sunday School Teacher for 10 years. He was the owner and operator of Sander’s Electronics, was an employee of West Tennessee Communications and also severed several years as an Alderman in Newbern.

Howard was a licensed Ham Radio Operator and spent his winters in Florida, where he volunteered with AARP as a Tax Preparation Specialist. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Mr. Jonathan Rogers officiating. Entombment will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive visitors from 12-1 Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Dyersburg Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Edna Sander of Newbern; a son, Howard W. Sander, Jr. of Lenoir City; two daughters, Victoria J. Pike of Cheyenne, WY and Melissa Sander Wall of McEwen; a sister, Evelyn Daughtery of Cream Ridge, N.J.; a brother, Benjamin Sander of Cream Ridge, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Elisha Childress (Crosby), Jonathan Rogers (Holly), Hunter Evans (Michelle), Katlin Sander, Shelby Shaw (Zach), Isaiah Wall, Howard Sander III and Aciana Sander; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Peel; and a brother, Harold Sander.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Rogers, Hunter Evans, Crosby Childress, Howard Sander, Jr., Howard Sander III and Evan Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Isaiah Wall and Zack Shaw. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
