Ima Jean (Monk) Carter, 80, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 16, 2018 while surrounded by her loved ones. Ima Jean was born July 24, 1938 in Lincoln County, NC to the late Robert Pinkney Auton and Maude Ethel Ingle Auton. She was a long-time member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Hickory.

Ima Jean was a hard worker, working many years at Hickory Shoe Lace, and Klingspor Abrasives, where she eventually retired. She was a very loving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,… Read More » sister, aunt, and friend. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family.

Her family was her world, and she was the world to her family. Other than being with family, she enjoyed shopping and traveling. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Burgin Auton, Ralph Auton, Robert (Hoot) Auton, William (Dood) Auton and 2 sisters, Maezelle Auton Walls, Ethel (Tis) Mae Auton Scronce.

Ima Jean is survived by her daughter, Pamela Jean Carter Barden and husband, Lyn, of Newton; son, Rodney Michael Auton and wife, Lu-Ann of Hickory; five grandchildren, Kevin Barden and wife Hannah Strouf of Leesburg, Georgia, Brandy Barden Slater and fiancée, Donald Price of Gamewell, NC, Chasity Barden Woodard and husband, Ricky Woodard of Hendersonville, NC, Kristen Auton of Hickory, NC and Katie Auton Rudisill and husband, Allen of Vale, NC; nine great-grandchildren, Ethen Strouf, Leilianna Barden, Adeline Barden, Jesse Slater, Haley Slater, Dylan Slater, Luke Woodard, Lane Woodard and Alexis Rudisill; three sisters, Barbara (Sis) Stallings, Linda (Kay) Stallings, and Frances (Polly) Peeler; and one brother, Harold Dean Auton; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Friday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with Jay Robison officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
