Obituary for Irene A. Swanson It is with great sadness that the family of Irene Swanson of Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Bonita Springs, FL announces her passing on the afternoon of May 10, 2018 at the age of 79. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Wendel Swanson of Bonita Springs, FL. Born in Queens, New York, in 1938, a daughter of the late Kenneth Bulleyment and Irene Anderson Bulleyment, she moved to Levittown, NY at age 13 and then graduated from Hempstead High School in 1956.

She attended Queens College, 1956-58. She was a stewardess for American Airlines from 1958-60. In 1960, she married Dr. Wendel Swanson, of Rockford, IL, and they started their new life together in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In 1963, her first son Kenneth was born. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Denver, Colorado. Their second son, Gregory, was born in 1967.

After decades spent in Colorado, Irene & Wendel spent years in Florida, Arizona, California, and finally settled in Bonita Springs. Irene spent her last few years at the Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, where she met many dear friends.

Irene will be forever remembered by her son Ken and daughter-in-law Carol Swanson of Hollis, New Hampshire; son Greg Swanson of Seattle, Washington; grandsons, Kyle & Christopher Swanson; sister and brother-in-law Beverly and Louis Minafra of Patchogue, New York; nephew Joe Minafra & family of California; brother-in-law Armer Swanson and nieces Pam Curtis & Lisa Kuechenberg of Illinois. Irene will also be lovingly remembered by her extended family and dear friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, FL.

The family requests no flowers please. Modest donations in memory of Irene Swanson are suggested to her church. Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957.
