Irene C. Slauterbeck, 89, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center. Irene was born on January 24, 1929 in Fremont, OH, the daughter of Julius and Julia (Pulska) Vargo. She worked as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell for over thirty years.

After her retirement she moved to Fort Myers, Fl, where she lived for over 30 years, returning to Port Clinton in 2010. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Florida, where she was involved… Read More » in the Womans Guild, the Altar Rosary Guild and worked in the resale shop at the church. She was a member of the Purple Hats Society in Florida.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton. In her younger years, she loved swimming, golfing and traveling. Those left to cherish her memory are: Daughter: Cheryl “Cherie” Oberst of Catawba Island; Granddaughter: Ashlynn (Jason) Oberst-Brish and Great-Grandchildren: Vencenza (aka Vinnie) Brish and James “Jimmy” Brish.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Helen Sabo, Elizabeth Posey, Julius Vargo, Steve Vargo, John Vargo, Frank Vargo, Betty Vargo, Robert Vargo and infant sister Mary Ester. Visitation will be 4-6pm, Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. A Memorial Mass will be conducted by Father John Missler at 10:00am, Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given for Vinnie’s and Jimmy’s college funds.
