(Morin) Remillard, 91, a native and lifelong resident of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Mount St. Vincent Care Center in Holyoke with her family by her side. Born on December 26, 1927, one of seven children of the late Alfred J. and Augustine M. (LaBrecque) Morin, she was raised and educated in Chicopee, was a graduate of Our Lady of the Elms College, Class of 1949 and went on to receive her Masters from Boston College. Her early career was as a teacher and later as a Building Contractor when she joined her husband, the late George H. Remillard, in the operation of their own business, G.I.C. Construction Co. in Chicopee.
Together they served as General Contractors in the area and were in operation until George passed away on September 2, 1981. Irene continued to run the business for another several years until her retirement in 1992. Irene was a devout member of Assumption Church serving her parish as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector up until just a few years ago.
She worked with the Chicopee Senior Center for the past 35 years as a grief counselor and Hospice Volunteer, was a member of the United Society and an Associate of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit. A woman with a strong sense of family value, Irene is survived by her son, Christopher Remillard and his wife Kathleen of Granby, two daughters, Linda Carlson of Chicopee and Sharon E. Olbon and her husband Harold of Springfield, three grandchildren, Hannah & Carrick Remillard of Granby and Judith Nashville of Springfield, her sister-in-law, Lucienne G. Morin of Chicopee and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her husband and parents, sadly Irene also suffered the loss of each of her siblings, Alfred E. Morin, J. Paul Morin, Ernest J. Morin, Sr. Beatrice Morin, D.H.S., Sr. Alfred de Marie, D.H.S. and Lillian M. Forgue Dufault.
Funeral Services for Irene will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 beginning at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee at 9 a.m. with the Funeral Mass being held in Holy Name Parish Church at Assumption Church, 94 Springfield St., Chicopee at 10. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 in the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Daughters of the Holy Spirit, P. O.
