J. Daniel (Dan) Hills, 87, passed away August 19, 2018 at Haven Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lock Haven. Dan was born in Mill Hall October 20, 1929, to the late Marvin M. and Mary Neal Hills. He was a 1947 graduate of Mill Hall High School, attended Lock Haven Teachers’ College and Temple University, and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps from March 1, 1952 until February 28, 1954.

Dan was married to the former Mary Long from November 8, 1952 until her death March 7, 2008. Dan retired from M. L. Claster’s and Sons where he was employed for over thirty years. He was active in many community organizations including Lafayette Masonic Lodge #199, Clinton County Shrine Club, Lock Haven Kiwanis Club, The United Way.

and The Bucktail Detachment #856 Marine Corps League where he assisted with their Toys for Tots program Dan was a respected businessman and was devoted to his family. He is survived by two daughters, Mona (Frank) Mathius of Slidell, LA and Leesa Mack of Lock Haven; three grandchildren, John Mathius of Nashville, TN, Maggie Mathius (Drake)Leonards of Houston, TX, and Sam Mathius of Boston, MA; one great grandchild, Jack Leonards; three brothers Ted (Carol) Hills and Don(Edna) Hills both of Mill Hall, Joe (Sharon)Hills of Springfield, VA and one sister, Ann Hills of Bellefonte. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Toys for Tots or The Ross Library through the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Eagle Ridge Personal Care Home and Haven Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care.
