Jack’s Obituary Jack Burnell Dutt, proud lifelong resident of Bismarck, passed away on December 17, 2018. Services will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3rd Street and Avenue A ,with visitation beginning at 9:30. Interment will be at 1:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan ND.

Jack was born in the family home, the oldest child of John, Jr. and Beatrice (Roth) Dutt. The family was completed when Jack was joined by his younger brother Burl. Jack was educated in Bismarck graduating from Bismarck High in 1946 and then attended Bismarck Junior College.

He married Teresa Reis in January 1952 and they celebrated 61 years together before Teresa’s death in 2013. Jack spent most of his career in sales, starting with selling newspapers as a kid, working for Builders Supply Company throughout his adult life and, in retirement, working at Menards. He then worked for the Bismarck Public Schools as an after-school monitor and activities attendant.

He formally retired at age 88. Jack served in the North Dakota National Guard retiring with the rank of Master Sargent. Jack was a great lover of the outdoors.

He was happy hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, and sailing. He and Teresa had two summer homes at Lake Tschida which provided great quality family time. They also built and completed five homes during their marriage using only hand tools for construction of the first one.

Jack was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years. Jack and Teresa directed much of their energy to Trinity’s youth program chaperoning local activities and national gatherings. Jack also became involved with PTA and served as city wide president.

Jack was a great reader of history, especially about World War II and North Dakota. Jack’s greatest joy in life came from family. He was thrilled with everything his grandchildren participated in, and have achieved, and his great-grandchildren brought him immense happiness with their smiles and hugs!

Jack is survived by his daughter Karen and her husband Michael Horan, Bismarck; granddaughter Jennifer Huang and husband Strong and their children Annabelle, Jackson and Olivia of Blaine, Minnesota; grandson Jeffrey Horan and his wife Samantha Kramer and their daughter Ainsley Horan of Bismarck. He is also survived by his brother Burl Dutt and his wife Shirley of Bismarck, many Dutt and Roth cousins, brother-in law John Schweitzer (Harvey), sister-in-law Lorraine Reis (Napolean), brother-in-law Peter Reis and his wife Rose, (Napolean), brother-in-law Al Leier (Linton), sister-in-law Barbara Wald and husband Victor (Napolean), sister-in-law Caroline Schatz (Cromwell, MN), sister-in-law Alvera Leier and husband Tony (Kintyre), sister-in-law Angie Geiger and husband Ed (Bismarck), and a flock of nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Teresa; his parents John and Beatrice Dutt; his in-laws Pius and Juliana Reis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Helen Wickenheiser, Tony and Eva Huber, Clara Schweitzer, Sebastian Reis, Madge Leier, Karl Schatz, Pius Reis, Jr.; several cousins and four nieces and nephews.

Memorials for Jack may be sent to the ND Veterans’ Cemetery.
