OBITUARY Jack Earl White February 20, 1931 – July 15, 2018 White, PE; Jack E. 87, of Valrico, (native of Jacksonville, FL, born Feb. 20, 1931), beloved and devoted husband of Shirley C. White, went home to be with his Lord on July 15, 2018. Jack and Shirley were married 64 years and have been faithful members of Bayshore Baptist Church of Tampa for more than 59 years where, on two occasions, Jack served as chairman of the deacons.
Jack is survived by his wife Shirley; son J. Earl White, Jr. (Lynn) of Marietta, GA; granddaughter Rebecca A. White; daughter Carolyn White Spencer (Jim) of Sebastian, FL; son Bruce A. White of Charlotte, NC; brother Clifton B. White (Judy) of Valrico, FL; and sister Miriam White Morgan (Jim) of Austin, TX. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Clifton Bartow White and Myra Sterling White. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
He left the Navy to attend the University of Florida and graduated in 1959 with a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduation he accepted a position in the Production Department at Tampa Electric Co., where he relished his work for over 39 years. He was highly regarded for his knowledge and expertise as an Electrical Engineer and Generator Specialist.
Learning was his passion, and he loved sharing knowledge with others, especially the power plant operators and electrical maintenance personnel. Jack took particular pride in guiding and mentoring young engineers as they began their careers. After a full career at Tampa Electric Co., Jack continued to apply his knowledge and experience as consultant to his former employer and to other clients in the electric industry.
Jack was a registered professional engineer, licensed by the state of Florida, and a life member of several professional associations: The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Power Engineering Society (PES), the Florida Engineering Society (FES) and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). His zest for life enabled him to live every minute to the fullest and share it with everyone he loved. He pursued his many interests with joy, passion and energy.
Jack was an avid softball player, runner, snow skier, NASCAR enthusiast and Florida Gators football fan. Jack touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 am Saturday July 21st at Bayshore Baptist Church, 3111 W. Morrison Avenue, Tampa, FL 33629.
