Jack Goss April 04, 1926 – February 23, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Jack Goss, Age 92 Born April 4, 1926 Died February 23, 2019 Born in Buffalo, NY Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the final months of World War II. After completing a selective electronics training program at Great Lakes Naval Training Station near Chicago, Jack was assigned to the radar station on the island of Guam. After leaving the Navy, Jack met his wife, Barbara J. Bush, at a roller-skating rink in 1946 and married her two years later.
Jack earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from Alfred University in Alfred, New York. Originally planning to teach math, Jack was soon hired by General Electric and started on a career that spanned several continents and companies. Jack work with GE in Tennessee and Texas before accepting an assignment in Rome, Italy, and then further assignments in Wiesbaden, Germany; Nancy, France; and Madrid, Spain.
Jack was then offered the opportunity to head the GE Electronic Division for the far east market, and the family relocated to Tokyo, Japan for almost 6 years. Along the way they had four children, each born in a different country: U.S.A, France, Spain, and Japan. After returning to the U.S. for a short stint in Oklahoma City, the family moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1965.
Jack worked for Milton Roy Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of kidney dialysis machines and other medical equipment, as the head of the Research and Development team. As Milton Roy began to transition through several mergers, acquisitions and name changes, Jack worked for Mil-Roy Extracorporeal Medical Specialties, Inc.; and Extracorporeal Medical Specialties, Inc.; before retiring from a division of Johnson & Johnson Corp. in 1985.
He then embarked on a long-standing interest in entrepreneurship that had started with his first venture in his college days: a mobile catering business to hungry factory workers. Already the co-owner with wife Barbara of John’s Pass Marina, Jack started several other businesses and partnerships, including Digital Precision Flowmeters, that built on his engineering and management skills. Jack was an engineer and inventor his entire life and held several patents from his work with flowmeter technology.
Jack was a former member and Treasurer of the Tampa Bay Inventor’s Council and a former member of the Lion’s Club of Clearwater. In the eyes of his family, Jack could fix anything and do everything. He had a quick wit, a great sense of fun, and was the life of any party.
He loved to sail, travel, play golf, and enjoy life to the fullest. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Danielson, of Largo, FL, and his father, Herbert Goss of Buffalo, NY. Goss, Arlington, VA Catherine Goss (Joe Willmore), Annandale, VA Son James Goss (Kelly), Largo, FL Grandchildren: Michael A. O’Connor (Karen), Clearwater Kevin J. Goss, Largo David E. Willmore, New Haven, CT Maia F. Goss, Arlington Nina Z. Goss, Arlington Sister Kathleen Greene, Frewsburg, NY and many nieces and nephews.
