Jack R. Dittman, 73, of Karns City, a retired Moniteau teacher and former business co-owner, passed away early Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving wife and family at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Jack was born in Bradford on September 24, 1944. He was the son of Ralph and Margaret Altmire Dittman.

He was a 1962 graduate of Karns City High School. He earned a B.S. from Clarion State Teacher’s College in 1966 and a Master’s in Education from Clarion in 1968. He was a long time member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, raising beagles, and most especially the company of his grandchildren. He was a well-known highly respected elementary teacher in the Moniteau School District.

He taught 5th grade science at Dassa McKinney and Washington Twp. Elementary Schools, retiring in 2003 following 38 years of service. Mr. Dittman was a co-owner, along with his father and brother, of Dittman Trucking in Bruin.

He is survived by his wife, Margretta L. Pederzolli Dittman, whom he married at St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church in East Brady on June 15, 1968. Also surviving are four children, Jennifer R. Grooms and her husband, Scott, of Slippery Rock, Dr. Michael J. Dittman and his wife, Kristie, of Butler, Adam R. Dittman of Harrisburg, and Amanda N. Dittman of Butler; eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Rebecca, Kira, Brianna, Kyle, Dominic, Gianna, and Natalia; a brother, David Dittman and his wife, Elaine, of Karns City; his mother-in-law, Grace Pederzolli of East Brady, as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Pederzolli.

Friend will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd. , Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday from Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, with the Rev.

Rick Thompson, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Eau Claire Cemetery. There will be a parish prayer service 6:45 Tuesday at the funeral home.
