Betty A. Fair, 83, of Chicora, formerly of Hornertown, passed away at the VNA Inpatient Hospice on Sunday, September 16, 2018. Betty was born in Parker Twp. , Butler County, on October 24, 1934.

She was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Ace Merchant. She was a 1952 graduate of Bruin High School. She was a member of Harvest Community Church in Fairview.

Betty enjoyed making beaded ornaments, playing bingo, and working in her flowerbed. Betty retired in 1997 from the Karns City Area School District where she had been employed as a custodian. She is survived by her husband, James H. Fair of Chicora, whom she married on June 20, 1952.

Also surviving is her daughter, Debbie A. Bly and her husband, Joe, of Chicora; four grandchildren, Joseph Bly and his wife, Angela, of White Oak, Texas, Julie Marshall and her husband, Joseph, of Chicora, Shaun Sabich and his wife, Melissa, of Marine City, MI, Shannon Dargaj and her husband, Chris, of Marine City, MI; twelve great grandchildren, Joseph and Travis Marshall of Chicora, Cody, Tyler and his wife, Megan, Jacob and his wife, London, Breanna and Stephanie Bly, all of White Oak, TX, Makayla, Savannah, and Logan Sabich and Madelyn and Wyatt Dargaj, all of Marine City, MI; three great great grandchildren, Brinlee, Bryson, and Adalynn Bly, all of White Oak, TX; a sister, Emma Jean Scott of Emlenton; sister-in-law, Sandra Merchant of Butler, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda L. Sabich who died September 19, 2011 and a son-in-law, Dennis Sabich, a granddaughter, Jennifer Bly, who died May 18, 1996, her step-father John Frineck; three brothers, Joseph, George, and John Merchant; two sisters, Shirley Craig and Martha Shoup, and a brother-in-law, who was killed in World War II, Ralph Fair. Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main Street, Karns City, from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Tuesday. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM from the funeral home. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
