Jack’s Obituary Jack Richard Smith, 74, of Batchtown, IL, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Mon. Jan. 21, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

He was born Aug. 10, 1944 in Batchtown, IL to the late George & Geraldine (Coughlin) Smith. On Mar.

10, 1972, he and Barbara J. “Jill” Smith were married in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death Apr. 26, 2012.

Jack retired as an oil & gas drill company owner but had done many things throughout his life, including being a machinist, a painter and having owned the carpet store in Batchtown, a bar in Meppen, IL and had even been a singing waiter. He is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Dawnya & Jason Laing of Michael, IL and Carolyn & Dan Stanley of Ft. Mojave, AZ; a son and daughter-in-law: Scott & Tomomi Smith of Alton; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Larry Smith of Batchtown and Tom Smith of Jerseyville, IL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Pat & Jena Sievers of Meppen, Jack & Sue Smith of GA and Jeff & Tracy Smith of CA; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Denny Smith and Kim Smith; and a sister: Linda Bunker. Services will be at a later date. Arrangements with online information and guestbook through Paynic Home for Funerals may be found at www.
