Jacob Warner Routt, son, brother, uncle, and friend, completed his journey here on Earth on approximately September 16, 2018. Jake was born the last of five children in Provo, Utah August 21, 1982 to Joseph and Sharon Routt. The golden child–Jake was the center of attention and a joy to his family.

From the time he was born he was full of life and love. Always exuberant, Jake stole the show wherever he was, from family videos to Halloween costume parties–even to the way he exited this mortal life. Jake served an honorable mission in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he found his love for Jesus Christ.

Like his dad, he always had the itch to travel and had a hard time staying in one place. From cliff-diving in Jamaica, scuba diving in Cozumel, kitesurfing in the Dominican Republic, and running with the bulls in Spain, Jake was always on the move. Thailand held a special place in Jake’s heart and he visited numerous times with some of his closest friends, entertaining them by knocking out opponents in Muay Thai fighting rings, cuddling with sloths and playing with monkeys.

Jake loved the ocean and pushed himself and friends to explore underwater caves, swim with sharks, and body-surf big waves at Sandy’s Beach on Oahu. Jake was a talented performer. After stealing the show in his pre-school program, Jake premiered as the lead in a Hawaii production of a Broadway musical at the young age of 12.

From there, he participated with different singing and dancing groups from Lagoon to Nashville. Jake’s dancing was vibrant and his voice melted your heart. Jake was not afraid of intimacy.

In order to be his friend, you had to be willing to dig deep into conversations and look closely at both your strengths and weaknesses–and if you weren’t aware of these characteristics, Jake would tell you what they were. Jake inspired others to be their best selves and he loved deeply and openly. Jake was strong like a lion, but gentle and sweet like a lamb.

He was fiercely loyal to his friends and family and these relationships brought him great joy. Jake was brave and lived life with a warrior mindset. He had a determination to perfect his body, refine his mind, and enlighten his spirit.

Never one to back down, Jake lived and died fearlessly, scaling mountains both figurative and literal. He will forever be among us. We love you Jake.

Jake is survived by his mother Sharon Routt; his sister Rachel Jones (James), his brothers Matthew (Susie), Joshua (Amy), Isaac (Racheal), and 13 nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday October 20, 2018 with visiting beginning at 11:00 AM and services at 12:00 PM in the LDS chapel on 500 S. 600 W. Orem, UT.
