Jake Edwin Bennett, born April 22, 1938, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, October 21, 2018. He leaves behind his loving wife, Martha Jane Bennett, their two daughters, Laura Michelle Bennett & husband, Travis Davis and Melissa Lynn Melton & husband, Allen Melton, their grandsons, Aaron Bennett Wylie & wife, Kayla and Zachery Dale Wylie & wife Glory. He is survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Bennett Brigman, her granddaughters Kristy Crawford, Misty Crawford and Whitney Lacey & family of Tennessee.

He was a beloved uncle to his many nieces & nephews and their families. Jake made an impact with everyone he met and worked with throughout his working life. He was an installer-repairman with Southwestern Bell-AT&T before retiring to a new role at the Grandview ISD maintenance department during which time he also worked at the Sure Shred shredding company.

Jake was a man committed to his family and community. He was a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America for many Grandview boys along with his brother-in-law, Joe Brigman. He followed in his father’s footsteps when he became a member of the Grandview Masonic Lodge.

He served at several levels on the church board at the First United Methodist Church in Grandview. He also served terms on the Grandview Community Center board along with his multiple years on the GISD school board where his daughters attended school and graduated like himself. Jake became a member of the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department and spent many an hour helping the community and helping to fight fires in the area.

During the summers, he became a coach of the Grandview Girl’ Softball Team for his daughters & their friends. He was generous with his time and shared his varied & extensive knowledge with anyone that expressed an interest or needed help. His influence and impact will continue for many years through the people he met and all that he loved.
