James A. Lamp, 75, of Newell, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the East Liverpool City Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born, January 24, 1943, in Rochester, PA. , he was a son of the late Alvie and Margie Holcomb Lamp.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Barckoff and by his sister, Shelby Thornberry. Jim attended Chester High School. He was veteran of the United States Army.

For many years he owned and trained thoroughbred racehorses. Racing at Waterford Park now known as Mountaineer Race Track and Casino. He had a passion for hunting and being outdoors.

Jim had a unique sense of humor and was a stubborn man, but he always had the best intentions. He is survived by his sons, Donald Lamp and his wife Penny of Chester, Everett Lamp of Newell and James Lamp and his wife Frances of Calcutta; daughters, Pam Roach and her husband David of Huntington, WV. , Margie Cioffi of Freedom, PA.

and Melissa Russell and her husband Rodney of Calcutta; brother, Ben Lamp and his wife Bertha of Chester; he will also be missed by his 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and by his friend and mother of four of his children, Jean Lamp. Pastor William Wagner will celebrate Jim’s life Friday, December 14, at the Arner Funeral Chapel at 3:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Locust Hill Cemetery.

Chester American Legion Post #121 and VFW Post #6450 Honor Guard will provide military services. Friends may visit the funeral home, 2 hours prior to the services from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM.
