James A Salvini , June 07, 1934 — June 15, 2018

James A. Salvini, 84, of Westfield, MA passed away on Friday, June 15th at Noble Hospital. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family which is exactly how he would have wanted it. Jim was born in Chester, MA on June 7, 1934.

He was the son of the late Samuel and Bertha (Sparks) Salvini. He grew up on Williams Street in Chester, MA, where he graduated from Chester High School. He then served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.

In 1960, he began his 48 year career working at Stanley Park as Greenhouse Manager. He curated and designed the park gardens into what they are today and his amazing “green thumb” was the wonder behind the beautiful rose and flower gardens. During this time he met Sheila Zewski, the love of his life.

They married in 1965 and moved to Westfield, MA where they raised their two children. For 53 years, Jim was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was patient, kind and caring and even after retirement continued his love of gardening, which was evident in his beautiful yard.

In addition to his wife Sheila of 53 years, Jim now watches over his son James of Westfield, MA, his daughter, Lori Doyle and her husband Jim, and his two grandchildren, Nicholas and Isabella of Southwick, MA. He is also survived by his brother, Gary and wife Jane Salvini, of Westfield, MA and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to gather on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2-4 PM at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA.

The funeral will be held on Monday, June 25 at 8:30 AM from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield, MA. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA. Donations in memory of James can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
