Obituary for Mr. James Aaron Black James Aaron Black, 81, husband of Carolyn Smith Black, of Salem, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A native of Toccoa, GA, Mr. Black was the son of the late Grady and Louise King Black. He was a veteran of the Georgia Air National Guard and had retired from the Georgia State Board of Workers Compensation as a court reporter.

Mr. Black was an association representative from Utica Baptist Church for the Beaverdam Baptist Association and attended the South Carolina Southern Baptist Convention meetings as a messenger for Utica Baptist Church. He was a friend of the Baptist Courier and longtime IPTAY supporter, having donated for over fifty-eight years. He was an avid traveler and a member of the Toccoa Lion’s Club.

Mr. Black was a member of Utica Baptist Church, where he was a teller. In addition to his wife, Mr. Black is survived by his son: Daryl Black (Kate) of Gettysburg, PA; daughters: Kim Benefield (Steve) of Suwanee, GA and Melanie Hollifield (Jake) of Lilburn, GA; brother: Don Black (Gail) of Albany, GA; grandchildren: Dustin Sepulveda, Madison Benefield, Frances Benefield, Finley Allison, Coleman Benefield, Katherine Hollifield and Beatrix Black. In addition to his parents, Mr. Black was preceded in death by a brother: Dan Black.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Utica Baptist Church in Seneca, SC, entombment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, December 10, 2018, at Davenport Funeral Home in West Union, SC.
