Obituary for James C. Claiborne James C. Claiborne, age 90, of Greenbrier, TN passed away at his home under the care of HighPoint Hospice on Monday, October 8, 2018. Arrangements entrusted to Austin & Bell Funeral Home, 2619 Hwy 41 S., Greenbrier, TN. There are no local services planned.

The family plans on a Celebration of life to be held at a later date in Lafayette, TN. He was born in Lafayette, TN (Macon County) on November 25th, 1927 to the late Wilson Alexander and Altie Hire Claiborne. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Roy Claiborne, Cordell Claiborne, Mary Nixon, Gracie Smith and Louise Gammon.

James first served in the US Navy and later retired from the US Air Force with a total of 20 years service. “Pappy” was a skilled Butcher in the service and in the grocery industry. He loved to buy, sell and trade pocket knives.

He was known in the knife world as the “Ripper”. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dixie Harper Claiborne; son, Michael Claiborne; daughter, Peggy Jo (Eddie) Slagle; grandchildren, Renee (Daniel) Greene, Chad Whitehead, Ashley (Stuart) Mobley; great-grandchildren, Bridgette Greene, AnnaBeth Greene, Maura Mobley and Laurel Mobley.
