Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada, with Dale West officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Services are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada. Jim was born on April 10, 1945, in Bauxite, Arkansas, to Early and Nell Pritchett. He grew up in the South Plains community of Floyd County, Texas, and graduated from Floydada High School.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State University in 1967, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and active in student government. Jim was a 1st Lt. in the Army Signal Corps and served a tour in Vietnam.

Subsequently he did graduate work at Texas Tech University, then began a very successful career as a musician. He married Barbara Palo of Billings, Montana, and they had two sons—Dustin and Mason. Jim was a remarkably gifted guitarist.

He spent most of his career in the music industry, lastly with United Artists in Nashville as a songwriter, musician, and producer. He was a quiet, understated man with an artist’s heart and soul. Upon retirement, Jim returned to Floyd County and took his creative talents in a new direction.

He developed a large body of work designing and painting gourds with intricate Native American designs, marketing them in art galleries in Santa Fe and Ruidoso, New Mexico. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Nell, and a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Shorty Turner. He is survived by his dad, Early, two brothers and sisters-in-law (Price & Patty Pritchett in Dallas, and Steve & Connie Pritchett in Amarillo), sons Dustin in Nashville and Mason in Chicago, plus three lovely grandchildren Jim treasured—Zoe, Nolan, and Reece.

He also has seven loving nieces and nephews in the Turner and Pritchett clans.
