James H. “Jim” Riley passed away April 10, 2018. Jim was born November 24, 1945 to James H. and Oertel Aadnesen Riley in Logan, Utah. Jim’s father passed away when Jim was 5 years old.

Two years later Oertel married Warren Hoit and Warren was Jim’s dad from that day forward. Jim grew up in Pocatello, graduated from Pocatello High School and attended Utah State University. He was an excellent skier and taught his children to love the sport. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin on the Blackfoot Reservoir. He was a long time member and past president of the Gate City Rotary Club and active in many Make-a-Wish fund raisers.

Jim married Cindy Pence in December of 1971. He is survived by Cindy, their son, Jim, who resides on Bainbridge Island, Washington, with his wife, Kari, daughter Anna, son Nolan, and daughter, Mandy, who resides in Boise, with her husband, Nels Jensen, and their son Porter. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan Webb, Smithfield, Utah, and Janeanne Snarr, Bountiful, Utah, and best friend.

Doug Crawford, Pocatello. Jim was a firm believer that if it wasn’t fun it wasn’t worth doing. From his work with Rotary, especially Paintfest, to the fundraisers for Make-a-Wish, Jim enjoyed making memories and telling stories.

He took great pride in his friendships and being able to make a difference. The family requests no flowers. Please send them to someone you love and take time to give them a hug and kiss.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018, at 2 pm, at the Juniper Hills Country Club in Pocatello. The family will greet guests one hour prior at the Country Club.
