James (Jim) Murray Logan, resident of Center Point, Texas, passed away on Saturday March 23, 2019 at the age of 65. After a courageous battle with cancer, he died peacefully at his home completely surrounded by his close family and friends. Jim was born on October 25, 1953 in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada to Omar and Marion Carr Logan.
As a boy, Jim was an avid athlete, excelling in basketball, track and field to name a few. Jim was given the highest honor of scouting, being the Queen Scout Award, presented to him by Queen Elizabeth II in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was President of the Key Club for Kiwanis International in Sus, New Brunswick and he competed vocally in many festivals and competitions throughout his youth.
Jim had 6 sisters and he was always the rock that held the family together. Jim had a unique bond with each one of his sisters and when there was a tough decision to be made, it was typically followed by someone saying: “Ask Jimmy”. As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself.
Jim found his calling in the health and safety industry and worked throughout his career as Safety Director with Boise Cascade in Fort Frances, Ontario and International Falls, MN, as Safety Manager with Riverwood International in Macon, Georgia, and then finally as the Corporate Safety Director for North America with Direct Energy in Houston, Texas. Jim was known for his “Logan-ism’s”, “Jim-ism’s” and “Mac, the Safety Dog” who found his way into Jim’s presentations through his work and education pieces he delivered to employees. Jim married early in life and had two beautiful children, Stephanie and Michael.
Jim worked hard to instill his zest for life and dedication to his family in both of his children. In 2004, he met the love of his life, Melissa. Melissa and Jim were married on December 31, 2011 and Jim was lucky enough to gain another daughter, Jaycie.
Jim raised Jaycie as his own and worked tirelessly to provide for them. Jim always tried to find the positive side to every situation and often resorted to humor when he faced difficult situations. Even in his last days, he was finding ways to make us laugh and keep us on our toes.
Melissa was beside Jim day and night with her unconditional love, comforting and caring for his every need for the last weeks, days and minutes of his life. Their love for each other was truly a gift. Jim was the best father and always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them.
Jim was a proud grandfather to Ashton and Brecken. He was a man who cared more about others than he did about himself and who even in his final days would say to his loved ones, “just take care of my family when I’m gone”. Anyone that knew Jim, knew he had a special place in his heart for his furry friends.
Rocky, Lil’ Bit and grand dog Stella were Jim’s constant companions, even with him during his last breath. Jim was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many.
He is predeceased by his parents, Omar and Marion Logan, and companions MacGyver, Dawson, Dee-O-Gee and grand dog Lennon. Jim is survived by loving wife, Melissa Stiles Logan, children, Michael Logan of Katy, Texas, Stephanie Mann (Jason) of Fort Frances, Ontario, Jaycie Barton-Logan (Braden Jaeger) of Center Point Texas, Sisters: Judy Moffatt of Ottawa, Ontario, Dawn Stoddard (Bob), Heather Carhart (Deryl), Faye Logan, Penny White, and Natalie Laurin (Bill), all of Sus, New Brunswick, Sister in laws Jana Stiles and Tammie Colvin, In-laws Butch and Sheila Stiles, nieces and nephews: Logan, Bailey, Courtney, Sadie, Mitchell, Meaghan, and Collin, Great Nephew, Daven, and grandchildren; Ashton Barnes and Brecken Mann.
