Obituary for James “Jim” Lovell Jr. Funeral services for James Marvin Lovell, Jr. of Terrell, TX will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Terrell with Pastor Peter McNabb officiating. Interment will follow at Chisholm Cemetery under the direction of Max Slayton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Monday, July 23, at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.

Mr. Lovell went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 20, 2018. Jim, the name he was known by to his friends and family, was born August 4, 1926 in Forney, Texas. He grew up in Chisholm, Texas and graduated from Rockwall High School in 1942.

At the age of 17, Lovell enlisted in the US Navy and served in World War II with the majority of his time spent in the South Pacific on the island of Peleliu. After serving his country proudly for 3 years, Lovell returned to Texas to marry the love of his life, Annette. The Lord blessed Jim and Annette with 71 wonderful years together.

The couple had three daughters: Margaret, Sherrie, and Paula. Jim’s career included farming, owning his own grocery store, and traveling sales. By far, his greatest accomplishment professionally was serving Brookshire’s as the Store Director in Terrell, Texas for 27 years after it opened in 1962.

Lovell loved the Brookshire company and believed in taking care of his customers and employees. Upon retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and he built many birdhouses, furniture, and other items as gifts and keepsakes for many people in the Terrell area. His devotion, humor, and love will be greatly missed.

Above all, Jim’s faith in Jesus Christ will remain an example to follow. Mr. Lovell was preceded in death by his parents, James and Georgia Lovell, sisters Frances Carnes and Lillian Hindman, and daughter, Paula Lovell. Those left to cherish his legacy are his beloved wife, Annette Lovell; children: Margaret & Joe Matura, Sherrie & Mike McBurney; grandchildren: Amanda & Michael Beckerich, Katie & Jeff Sullivan, Matt & Laura Matura, Rhonda Talbert, Zachary & Autumn Wiley, and Casey & Meredith Wiley; great-grandchildren: Cameron Beckerich, Ariana Sullivan, Jarek Sullivan, Reese Wiley, Reagan Wiley, Alexandria Wiley, Caden Wiley, Joe & Taylor Wheeler, Easton Wheeler, Tracy Talbert, Tryce Talbert, and Andy Matura as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Michael Beckerich, Mike McBurney, Matt Matura, Zachary Wiley, Caden Wiley, and Casey Wiley with Gary Harris, Joe Matura, and Frank Williams serving as Honorary Pallbearers. For those wishing, memorials may be made in honor of Jim’s love for his community to First United Methodist, 503 W.
