82, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Pamela (Hakanson) McPhillips. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John L. and Agnes (Gorman) McPhillips.

Jim was the President of HRS Employee Assistance Program for many years. He traveled extensively throughout New York City, Massachusetts and Rhode Island in St. Regis and Starwood Hotels for his work, which was also his greatest passion. He was a cherished member of Garden City Alcoholics Anonymous for 55 years where he helped so many people along the path to sobriety.

Jim was a sports fanatic for all local Boston teams, as well as the captain of his beloved “Gym Rats” basketball team. He was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished.

Jim is survived by his loving children, Sean McPhillips of Cranston, Holly Henderson and her husband John Henderson of Coventry, Ashly McPhillips of Boston, MA, the late Erin McPhillips, as well as Chris Droitcour and Ricky Droitcour; grandchildren Cameron and Shane Henderson; dear siblings, the late Mary McPhillips and John “Jack” L. McPhillips, Jr. Jim is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave. , Cranston on Tuesday at 11:00 am.

Burial with military honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. VISITING HOURS will be held on Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Herren Project, PO Box 131, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or www.
