James R. “Jim” Glass June 13, 1944 – February 15, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook James Russell ‘Jim’ Glass Jr., 74, of South Hutchinson, died February 15, 2019, at his home. He was born June 13, 1944, in Hutchinson, to James R. and Lois W. (Robertson) Glass. Jim graduated from Nickerson High School in 1962, took some college drafting classes, went to real estate broker’s school, and completed trade apprenticeships in plumbing and electric.

He worked for Cessna and in the architectural department at Dillons before going into business for himself as a home designer, builder, and general contractor. Jim designed and built about 300 houses and apartments around Reno county (including the Larry Doskocil home), designed house plans for Warren Schmidt and other local builders’ subdivisions, and was a draftsman for two architectural firms. He was a member of Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M. and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

On December 28, 1961, Jim married Catherine Ann McKee in Hutchinson. They divorced in 1978. In December 2000, he married Claudia J. Laird in Hutchinson.

She survives. Other survivors include: daughter, Debra Glass (Greg Frisbee), South Hutchinson; sons, John Glass (Wynnetta), South Hutchinson, Jeremy Glass, Wichita; granddaughters, Kayci Glass, Lynsi Aumiller (Dallas), Chelcee Stewart (Kyle), Madyson Glass; great-grandsons, Waylon, Silas, and Levi Frye, Landry Aumiller, Gauge Stewart; stepdaughter, Sarah Williams (Ryan), Wichita; stepson, James Broker (Katie), Hutchinson; step-grandsons, Dawson and Nolan Williams, step-granddaughter, Claire Williams; brother, Tom Glass, Hutchinson; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; an infant brother and brother, Bill Glass; sister, Susan Johnson; and ex-wife, Cathy Voss.

Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson, with Father Juan Garza officiating. A reception will follow in Madonna Hall.

Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to St. Rose of Lima charity at the church, Hutchinson Catholic elementary schools lunch program, or Henry Laird Memorial Library Fund, Belpre, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
