James Stephen O’Dea, 90, on Tuesday, October 23, originally of Washington, D.C., and latterly of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of the late Patricia Ann O’Dea, née Dugan; loving father of Sean (Anita) O’Dea and Patrick (Lynn) O’Dea; dear brother of the late William O’Dea, the late Marie Brewer, and the late Patricia Hanson; and loving grandfather of Mary and Aidan. Born in D.C. in October 1928, Steve grew up in the Petworth area of Washington, attending St. Gabriel School, and then graduating from St. John’s College High School.

He served honorably in the U.S Army during the Korean War. On his return, Steve entered the U.S. Foreign Service, serving in “glamorous” posts around the world as a Communicator until his retirement. Relatives and friends may call at St Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church, on Tuesday, October 30 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM, where A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM.

Interment to follow on Wednesday, October 31 at 1:00 PM, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth and Families, 4901 Eastern Avenue, Hyattsville, Maryland 20782, by email at donations@stanns.org or by phone 301-559-5500.
