Obituary for James V. “Jim” Shriver James V. “Jim” Shriver, age 72, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018. He was born in Muskegon, MI to D.W. and Kathryn Jean (Valk) Shriver on March 29, 1946. Jim attended Henry St. School, Nelson Jr. High and Muskegon High School, graduating in 1964.

He excelled in both football and track while in school. In 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, which he served for four years including two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. Upon returning home from the service, he completed a bachelor’s degree at GVSU.

Jim was employed as a millwright at Arconic (Homet) and S.D. Warren for a total of 41 years. Most recently, he was employed at Ravenna Ductile Iron as a welder and millwright. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially his numerous trips to Saskatchewan for whitetail deer and black bear.

Jim enjoyed watching the grandchildren’s many sporting events, including hockey, soccer, softball, and basketball. He also loved raising beef cattle with Tom Peterson. SURVIVORS include his step-children: Stacy (Jason) Peterson of North Muskegon, Scott (Marcy) Hannahs of Norton Shores; step-grandchildren: Makenna, Mairyn, Malaina, Madalyn, and Mason Peterson, Erick and Kalynn Hannahs; sister, Jane (Jim) Mays of Bear Lake, MI; brother, Bill (Rita) Shriver of New Era, MI; brother-in-law, Steve Reilly of Norton Shores; six nieces and nephews: Joe Mays, Dan Mays, Mark Reilly, Kate Rockey, Elisa Shriver, Megan Shriver; best buddy, Leigh Smith of Muskegon; and his beloved dog, Scarlett.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ann K. Reilly. A MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, September 24, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. A private Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held by the family.
