Jane’s Obituary Jane Evelyn (Watson) Moore entered the Kingdom of Heaven on March 16, 2019. She had recently celebrated her 84th birthday. Jane was born March 8, 1935 to Fredrick and Evelyn Watson in Chicago, IL.
Jane spent her childhood in Chicago. She grew up attending Crawford Bible Church, a branch of Cicero Bible Church, and started her school days at Corkery Grade School in Chicago. In 1949 Jane moved to Wheaton Academy for high school and lived in the dormitory the school had at the time.
Her times at Wheaton Academy were “life changing years under the guidance of Joyce and Mel Johnson”. Friendships from her Academy days were some of her best friends for life. After graduation from The Academy, Jane went down the road to Wheaton College where she had another life changing time.
During her years at Wheaton College she met and fell in love with Alan Moore whom she married on June 10, 1958. Together they spent college summers at Honey Rock Camp in Three Lakes, WI. They both loved the Three Lakes area and after their time at Honey Rock was completed they purchased property and built a second home where Jane’s family still enjoys spending summers.
Jane spent 12 years at Honey Rock Camp as a Counselor, Unit Leader and Girls Camp Director and served on the Board of Advisors until 2004. Jane graduated from Wheaton College as a Physical Education major in 1956. She then taught PE at Wheaton Academy for seven years.
After she married Alan and they settled in Wheaton, IL she spent two years teaching PE at Elmhurst College and then joined Alan in his ServiceMaster business. In 1963 Jane became mother to David followed by Debby (1967) and Donna (1969). Her children became the center of her activities and volunteering all through their years at Wheaton Christian Grammar School and Wheaton Academy.
Jane taught the five-year-old Sunday School class for nearly 25 years and served on the Deaconess Board of College Church. In 1981 her beloved husband Alan died of ALS and she took on the responsibility of being a single parent and continued devoting her time to the kids and their school and church activities. In 1982 Jane joined the Marianjoy Auxiliary Board where she served 30 years including two as board president.
She was also the manager of the Gift Shop at Marianjoy and was respectfully known as the “Protestant Nun”. Jane also spent countless hours serving at Wyndemere. At these places she enjoyed the work and, most of all, the ladies she worked with.
Each one touching her life in an extremely special way. A very special time for Jane was each summer, and as many holidays as possible, when she was able to pack up the car and head north to the family home in Three Lakes, WI. She was involved in adult and youth activities at the Three Lakes Evangelical Free Church.
She spent countless hours with special friends at the Three Lakes Water Ski club shows and activities watching her children and grandchildren perform in the shows. Monday mornings were spent with the “Ladies of the Lake” over breakfast. An extra special time in Three Lakes was spending Wednesday mornings with a group of wonderful ladies as she hosted a bible study in her home for 28 years.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Alan, and her parents. She is survived by her son David (Elissa) Moore of West Chicago, IL, daughters Debby (Russ) Running of Sugar Camp, WI, Donna (Jay) Teagle of West Chicago, IL, seven Grandchildren: Davis (Brooke), Devin (Erica), Kacey, Brandon, Ally (Caleb), Amanda and Jayson, and two Great Grandsons Weston and Hunter.
