Torrington- Janet H. Ziggiotto, 84, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, Torrington. Mrs. Ziggiotto was born in Manhattan, NYC, NY, on June 3, 1934, daughter of the late John Remecki, Sr., and Mary (Mikulak) Remecki, and had been a Torrington resident most of her life. She was a retired parking attendant with the City of Torrington, a position she held for 8 years, and was the first Director of the Community Soup Kitchen of Torrington.

Janet was a communicant of St. John Paul the Great Parish, a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the Slovak Catholic Sokols, and the Sons of Italy. She was an avid bingo player, and enjoyed playing at St. Maron’s Church, Torrington. Survivors include two sons, Louis Capra, Jr., and his wife Cynthia, and Michael Ziggiotto; a daughter, Jayne Martigneni and her husband Leo, all of Torrington; a brother, John Remecki, Jr.; two sisters, Florence Simons and Dorothy Brewer and her husband Keith, all of Bristol; a brother-in-law, Edward McLaughlin of Burlington; a granddaughter, Konnie Shaw and her husband Peter of Torrington; two great-grandsons, Peter Shaw and Nicolas Shaw; and many nieces and nephews.

Janet is also survived by her beloved granddogs, “Mindy” and “Tucker”, and grandcat, “Beanie”. She was predeceased by a sister, Jean McLaughlin; and her companion, Romeo Pothier. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 9:30a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington.

Friends may call Tuesday, September 11, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Soup Kitchen of Torrington, P.O. Box 852, 220 Prospect St., Torrington, CT 06790 or Friendly Hands Food Bank, 50 King St., Torrington, CT 06790.
