Obituary of Janet Birtciel Mrs. Janet L. Griffin Birtciel, 79, of 174 New Street, Pleasantville, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Erie, after a brief illness. She was born in Plummer on February 14, 1939 to the late Thomas Edwin and Mattie Elizabeth Daugherty Griffin. Janet was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1957.

She married Mr. Richard L. Birtciel on December 30, 1956 in Pleasantville. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1999. Janet dedicated her life to helping others.

She had over 200 foster children pass through her home, over a span of twenty years. She loved to read, play the piano and guitar, and garden. Janet is survived by one son, Stephen D. Birtciel of Titusville; four daughters, Jayne Fenstermaker and husband Thomas of Warren, OH, Deborah Rhodes and husband Douglas of Cleveland, TN, Donna Kettle of Orlando, FL, and Barbara MacDonald and husband Ronald of Pleasantville; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Sally Griffin Tankersly of Stowe, OH; a cousin and best friend, Jacqui Dougherty Gilbert of Rouseville; mother-in-law, Wanda Hoteling of Houston, TX; two sister-in-laws, Jayne Hoteling Perkins of Houston, TX and Pamela Potts Griffin of Pleasantville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas “Toby” E. Griffin, Jr., and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Copeland. A memorial service will be held in August at the Pleasantville Community Church. It will be announced at a later date.
