OBITUARY Janie W Rea January 4, 1940 – September 15, 2018 Janie Lee Wolfe Rea, 78, died peacefully on Saturday September 15 at Atrium Hospital in Pineville, NC. Janie was born in Lancaster County, South Carolina on January 4, 1940 to James Richard Wolfe and Lucille Ashley Wolfe. She graduated from Indian Land High School in 1957.

While there she played basketball, was a cheerleader, and was voted “Miss Hi Miss”. She then began working as a secretary in Charlotte. An active member at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church choir, it was there that she met Ralph Rea as he was a guest director one evening in 1961.

The two of them would sing together for the next 50 + years. They were married at Pleasant Hill in 1962 and lived on the Rea family farm in what was then Matthews, NC. Ralph accepted a chancel choir director position at Pineville United Methodist Church where they moved their membership and she remained active throughout the rest of her life.

Over that time, she served on most every committee and was chairperson of many of them. Janie served her beloved church further after her children were grown as its’ dedicated administrative assistant. She had a heart and a gift for organization, administration and hospitality that she used to enrich both her church and family life.

Janie and Ralph had 3 children: Scott Rea, Kelly Rea Chiseck (Billy), and Ashley Rea Bolick (Brett). Janie dedicated herself to the nurture and care of her 3 children while they were little, and later to the spoiling of her 5 grandchildren. Family was what she enjoyed most in life.

In addition to her love of family and music, other passions included Carolina Panther football, ACC college basketball, shopping, July 4th at Ocean Isle Beach, Rea family Thanksgiving, watching the many birds that visited her feeders, and her afternoon coffee frappuccino. Her quick wit and and charming personality will be missed by all who knew her. Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lucille Wolf, her brother, James Richard Wolfe, and her son, Scott Rea.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ralph Rea, daughter and son-in-law Kelly Rea Chiseck and Billy Chiseck, daughter and son-in-law Ashley Rea Bolick and Brett Bolick, grandchildren Isabel, Olivia, and Avery Chiseck and Kinsey and Ethan Bolick, and her beloved lap dog, Jack.
