Mrs. Janis V. Williams was born in Pine Bluff Arkansas on September 14, 1932, the seventh of ten children born to William C. and LeAnna C. Hopkins. She was the baby girl of the family and would be for five years. After the birth of three younger brothers she established her position as the big sister.

Janis received her early primary education at the Jefferson County School, in Pine Bluff Arkansas where she proved to be very studious. When the family relocated to the Kansas City area she attended Northeast Junior High and Sumner High School graduating with the class of 1951. Janis along with her sister Grace went to work for Social Security Administration, while Grace stayed Janis pursued other vocations.

Janis moved to Los Angeles, California where she lived for a while but was drawn back to the Kansas City area to be close to her parents and siblings. Janis and carl Williams were united in marriage on February 20, 1967 and remained so until his passing. Janis pursued higher education at Metropolitan Community College, transferring to the University of Missouri at Columbia where she received her BS in Education graduating on August 4, 1967.

She went on to take graduate classes at KU and Avila. Janis taught in the Kansas City, Kansas school district throughout her teaching career. Janis retired from teaching in May of 1996 after teaching at Parker Elementary for twenty-nine years.

Janis was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ Holiness (USA) where she served in many capacities at Christ Temple Church and First Church of Christ. Janis was a very generous person and was instrumental in helping many families that came to the church. Though she had no children of her own she was very involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews with a special involvement in Joyce and DeLawrence whom she called her kids.

She would sometime surprise the young ones and take them to eat Chinese or go to get ice cream, she loved ice cream, and they loved riding in the yellow convertible. She was actively involved in their lives until illness prevented her from doing so. Janis is preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents William C and LeAnna C. Hopkins, and her brothers William Jr., Vern M. Sr., Tyrone E; Ronald E. Sr., Sisters Alma Pearson, Nettie H. Jones, Grace C. Hopkins LaJoy D. Scott and Wilhelmina R. Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her memory many nephews and nieces, first, second, third and fourth generations. A dear friend and roommate Mrs. Elizabeth Turner and the staff of Blue River Care. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. at Mt.

Calvary Church Of God In Christ 2422 Van Brunt Blvd. KCMO. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery.
