OBITUARY Jason Allen Yerby November 17, 1971 – September 6, 2018 Jason Allen Yerby, 46, of Hyannis, MA (formerly of Chicago, IL. , Escondido, CA. , Nantucket, MA.

, and Portage, IN), passed away Friday, September 7, 2018, sadly caused by years of substance abuse. Jason was born on November 17, 1971, to Glenn and the late Janice Yerby in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales high school in 1990 and moved to Escondido, California with friends in 1992.

He returned to Chicago after surviving an explosion in California (he really did have 9 lives), but Jason was an adventurer—he loved being outdoors, and fishing, and didn’t hesitate to relocate when he thought he could get away from bad influences. He landed on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts in 1996 where he met Heather, the mother of his children. Jason mostly remained in the Cape Cod area until his death, with the exception of some time spent living back in Portage, Indiana area after the death of his mother.

It was in Hyannis, MA that Jason met his wife, Michele (Missy) Chiuchiolo. They were married in March, 2016 but had been a couple for nearly 10 years. Missy was devoted to Jason and stayed at his side until his body gave up.

Jason fought the disease of alcohol and drug addiction for many years, returning to rehab and detox again and again, trying desperately to stay sober. Unfortunately, the disease took over his body and mind, and he was unable to escape its hold on him. He wanted nothing more than to be loved and be able to have a relationship with his children, whom he loved deeply and missed constantly.

Jason leaves behind: his devastated wife Missy (Michele Chiuchiolo) Yerby, step-sons Payne Holt and Anthony Chiuchiolo, his children Zachary Yerby and Mackenzie Carpenter, his father and step-mother, Glenn Yerby and Martha Brubaker Yerby, his sister Julie Yerby Woods, niece and nephew Katie and Michael Woods, step-sister Traci Brubaker, step-brother David Brubaker (Laura) and family, step-brother Daniel (Jacquelyn) and family, aunts, uncles and cousins. His mother, Janice Yerby, grandmother Dorothy Nitz, uncle Mark Yerby, and other family members, were waiting for him in Heaven. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23 at Portage 1st United Methodist Church, 2637 McCool Road, Portage, IN 46368.

Visitation from 1-3, memorial service at 3 p.m., meal following service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, any donations received in his honor will be sent to his children and widow.
