OBITUARY Helen E. Gilchrist February 24, 1933 – October 25, 2018 CENTERVILLE- Helen E. (Kahelin) Gilchrist, 85, died peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank E. Gilchrist until his passing in October of last year. Born and raised in Centerville, she was the daughter of the late Aate and Annie Kahelin.

Helen was a graduate of Barnstable High School with the class of 1950 where she participated in various sports and activities. Upon graduating from high school, Helen worked for New England Telephone Co. where she was a Supervisor. It was during her time spent working there that she met her husband, Frank.

Helen and Frank were married in 1955 at South Congregational Church in Centerville. They then went on to raise their four children in Centerville. In her spare time, Helen found enjoyment in reading, baking, sewing and knitting.

She liked to spend time outdoors whether it was swimming at the beach, relaxing by the lake, or camping with her husband. Helen loved to travel around New England, to Florida and the Caribbean. She and Frank took two cross country trips, visiting all corners of the United States.

Helen was a proud member of the Finnish-American Society of Cape Cod. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her four children, Jodie Hodsdon (Bill) of Hyannis; James Gilchrist (Susan) of Centerville, Karen M., and Gwen Gilchrist Stanton (William) of Belmont; and a brother, Robert Kahelin of Osterville and Fort Myers, FL; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her sister in law, Georgia Kahelin.

Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, October 29th from 3 to 7 p.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 30th at 12 p.m. inside the funeral home. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery.
