Obituary for Jean Smith Emma Jean McSherry Smith, (Nana) age 90, of Valley Ridge, Covington, Virginia passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at her home. Born May 2, 1928 in Clifton Forge, she was the daughter of the late John Francis and Lucy Dill McSherry. She worked for the Alleghany Highlands School System for 25 years and was a member of the Alleghany Highlands Retired Teachers Association.

She was an active member of Low Moor Presbyterian Church, where she served as treasurer for 35 years. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder, and was a Life Member of the Presbyterian Women of the Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.M. Smith, Jr. in 1986; two brothers, Elwood McSherry and Tom McSherry; her three sisters, Lucy Frances Knighton, Julia Anderson and Johnnie Zentmyer Oliver.

Left to celebrate her memory are her daughters, Sherry S. Craft, and husband Alan Dale of Selma; and Sally S. Wolfe, and husband Harvey Wolfe, Sr of Valley Ridge; and her beloved grandchildren, Josh Craft and wife Krista; Kate Brown and husband Keith; Nan Williams and husband John Scott; Ben Craft and wife Mary; Drew Showalter and wife Ashleigh; Harvey Wolfe, Jr. and Ben Wolfe and fiancée Nakia Dorcus. Also surviving are “the joys of my old age” as she called her 18 great grandchildren; Emma and Abby Williams; Maddi, Carson, Alli and Emeri Brown; Calvin and Gabriel Craft and Mandolin Kimberlin; Bremmer, Cannon and Cabell Craft; Barrett and Charleigh Showalter; Bailey, Caleb and Ryker Wolfe; and Brenden Wolfe. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, special friends and her church family of Low Moor Presbyterian Church.

In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated, and a celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Lisa Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Her family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

She requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Low Moor Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Attn: Rebecca Irvine, P.O. Box 125, Low Moor, VA 24457.
