OBITUARY Jean Stewart Doster January 6, 1922 – January 9, 2019 WEST COLUMBIA – Funeral service for Jean Stewart Doster, 97, of Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, West Columbia, SC, will be held in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Still Hopes on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Guignard Mansion at Still Hopes. Mrs. Doster died January 9, 2019 at home.

Dunbar Funeral Home is assisting the family. Jean was born January 6, 1922 in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. The daughter of the late Roscoe Winfield Stewart and Clare Louise Bell Stewart, she grew up in Springfield, Missouri.

She attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri and graduated with a BA in History from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Lancaster, SC for fifty-four years and was active in all its programs. Since moving to Still Hopes in 2002, she continued her wide interests in its delightful community spirit.

Jean is preceded in her death by her husband of fifty-six years, Judge Robert McManus Doster, her brother Robert Bell Stewart, MD and sister, Anne Stewart Youmans, PhD. She is survived by their son, Robert Doster of Van Wick, SC and daughters Anne Doster, PhD of Raleigh, NC, Jean Norris of Columbia, Lou Jurkowski, FAIA of Raleigh, NC, Beth Sellers of Oro Valley, AZ and Chris Lotti, NP of Sewanee, TN. She is survived by eight grandchildren; Bob V. Doster of Raleigh, NC, Clare Britt of Chicago, IL, Leigh Davis of Columbia, SC, Lane Norris of Columbia, SC, Anne Johnson of Carrboro, NC, Claire Sellers, MD of Raleigh, NC, and Steve Sellers of San Mateo, CA and six great-grandchildren; June and Clark Johnson of Carrboro, NC, Annabelle and Josephine Britt of Raleigh, NC and Miller and Katherine Davis of Columbia, SC.

Jean was a woman who lived by her actions, words and deeds. A life given to God, she was deeply loved by and celebrated joy with everyone with whom she came in contact. Jean will be greatly missed by all of her many friends and family.

Graveside burial for family and friends will be at Westside Cemetery in Lancaster, SC on January 13, 2019 at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Discretionary Fund of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Still Hopes, 1 Exum Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169, or to the charity of your choice.
