Jeanne Hayes Street, age 107 of Glendon, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Glendon Independent Christian Church of which she was a long time active member conducted by the Rev. Brian Bean and the Rev.

Bob Yandle. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. A native of Antioch, IL she was a daughter of the late James Alfred and Lucille Taylor Hayes.

Her father being first a lineman, then superintendent with the newly developing telephone company, Jeanne moved around a lot in her early years. She graduated from nursing school and worked as registered nurse for several different hospitals and clinics. In Savannah, Georgia, just one day before her 30th birthday she married Doctor Murdo Eugene Street, Jr.; who after serving in the Coast Guard returned with his bride to Glendon to take over his ailing father’s practice … following in his father’s footsteps to serve the people of Moore County and beyond.

This is where they raised their children and stayed for the rest of their lives. Jeanne was loved by everyone, but especially her family. Her children remember her as being a wonderful mother and a best friend.

She was very athletic and enjoyed gymnastics, dance, skiing and tennis to name a few things. She was also an avid reader and loved poetry. Even in recent years when her eyes became dim and she couldn’t read she would recite poetry and continually entertain friends and family with songs and stories of her full and wonderful life.

Jeanne’s positive attitude and caring spirit shined her entire 107 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Eugene Street, Jr.; a daughter Lucy Dilling; a granddaughter Beth Peirceall Coode; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughters Nancy Pierceall and Carol Caggiano both of Glendon, Rose Ellen Hancock of Burlington.

Memorials may be made to: Glendon Independent Christian Church, 148 Glendon Church Road, Carthage, NC 28327. Fry & Prickett Funeral Home is serving the Street family.
